Why do we keep falling back into this cycle?

I tell you everything because I've got nothing to hide & I find it incredulous & funny. I love to share a good joke. But why do I keep getting scolded (for lack of a better word) for telling the truth? 

Is silence really the better option? Is avoidance and superficiality always king?
